Clinical Psychologist

Area: Adults

 Band: 7 (Preceptorship) or 8a

 Hours: 37.5 per week

Service: Secondary Care community Therapies Hub

Location: Wigan.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time qualified Clinical Psychologist looking for a post with potential career progression within the secondary care Community Therapies Hub in Wigan. We will be able to provide a comprehensive and supported preceptorship programme for this role. Following successful completion of training and meeting agreed competencies, the post holder would move up to a Band 8a position. Alternatively, the role might appeal to an experienced Band 7 looking for promotion.

We are looking for someone with the passion and clinical skills to enable them to work with severe, enduring and complex mental health problems, providing assessments, formulations and therapeutic interventions to people referred to our service, both individually and in group format, and to support the work of colleagues.

Due to the nature of the post, there will be ample opportunities to develop consultation and supervisory skills.  The post holder will have a strong interest and commitment to working with complex psychological presentations and have established skills in delivering high quality psychological therapy within a secondary care setting.  A strong interest in audit, evaluation, teaching and training staff groups would also be beneficial, as would prior skills and training in a range of therapeutic approaches.

The Community Therapies Hub is a team comprising of psychologists, psychological practitioners, occupational therapists and personality disorder link workers, with an emphasis on strong clinical leadership.

As well as providing therapeutic treatments, the Hub also co-ordinates the personality disorder pathway across Wigan and supports the training and development of services, both internally and to our external partners in Wigan. The team prides itself in being highly supportive, there is provision for individual and peer supervision, and training placements for all three North West Doctorate training courses in Clinical Psychology are routinely provided.

North West Boroughs NHS Foundation Trust provides specialist services for people with mental health problems, together with a range of other specialist services. The population served in the Wigan & Leigh borough is approximately 308,000.
